These photos are some of the first restorations I did in colour, so they're a little artier rather than my usual archival, but I think they bring up well the kind of area it used to be. These are the 'witches houses' in Johnston Street in 1890.

Looking to Johnston Street from Jubilee Park in 1883. The Abbey is under construction, and the witches houses aren't yet started. This bay, like most tidal ones about Sydney Harbour that were mud-flats at low tide, was infilled and the reclaimed land made into parkland.
