For a time in the Domain in the 1860s, a crane structure was erected for the construction of the Governor Bourke statue, from where this photo appears to have been taken. Looking south west, some of the sights are; at bottom right, The Girls' School of Industry, built 1826, demolished in 1879 for the Garden Palace. At centre is the Iron Church, built 1856, later converted to the Public Library, then disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere in 1911. Directly behind it is the spire of St James Church, and in the distant centre is St Andrews Cathedral under construction.
