Another of Syer's candid snaps. Essex Street looking east to George. Over the years, it's been regraded several times which accounts for the extreme difference. But it's the same place and view.

Sydneytecture is about pictures of old, forgotten places in Sydney, and my restorations of them into living colour.

I wanted to see how real life would look to the people in these faded, black & white photos. So beyond just colourising, I try to make each photo's details realistic, like it was taken by a modern camera, while keeping it accurate to the original.

And now I share them here with you.

Most of my restored pics are definitely best viewed enlarged to see their detail, as this main page previews them in low resolution.

I've also included a clickable link to the Google Street View of each photo's modern view, so you can check out how the scenes look today.

All photos are from Trove, and all dates are confirmed via Sand's Directory and Dove's Maps. Once or twice a week, I upload new ones.
