Pitt Street at Haymarket 1893

The old Belmore Markets on the left, the new Belmore markets on the right. Gas holder behind, Anthony Hordern's old building is the tower behind that, and St Lawrence school at the head of the street.

The old Belmore Markets went for the now long-gone Sydney Hotel, for decades now a vacant block; the new Belmore Markets were moved to Paddy's and the site redeveloped as the Capitol Theatre (using the same tiles from the markets, they can still be seen today.) The gas holder was replaced by an AGL office; Anthony Hordern's burnt down; and the school was cleared for Central Station. Hence, nothing looks the same! But isn't that just Sydney?
